Birdwatching in Patagonia

The length of the trip can easily be extended to cover more terrain and/or different habitats or find another specially needed bird. The itinerary can be reverted or it can start in other places (including Chile), flexibility is the key to get to see the birds. Extensions to Torres del Paine National Park and Tierra del Fuego and boat trips for pelagics can be arranged.

Santiago Imberti: Santiago was born and raised in southern Patagonia, Argentina, which meant that wilderness was only a short step from his front door. A long lasting love for nature was a logical consequence of the years he lived there. He obtained a degree in tourism and ornithology, which allowed him to combine his love for nature and the outdoors with his work as a fly fishing, birdwatching and mountain guide. During the off-season Santiago continues his ornithology research, focusing his attention on birds of southern Patagonia and Antarctica. He also uses that time as an opportunity to travel around the world, bushwalking and birding, studying different bird communities and their surrounding environments. Avid naturalist, he is keen in spending as much time as possible in nature and is always looking for new places to visit and ways to transmit that love and interest in the small things to others. In looking to get people to understand nature, he works as an interpretation guide and also helps schools science projects in an attempt to get kids interested in nature. He is currently developing the inventory of the birds of los Glaciares N.P., the study of the rediscovered Austral rail and the search of the winter grounds of the Hooded Grebe.
Santiago photographs and writes about the many places he visits and his experiences as a guide, trying to convey in words and pictures some sense of the magic of nature. His articles and stories have been published in scientific journals and popular travel magazines.
